Two Die During STP Tank Cleaning at Eldeco Society in Greater Noida’s Sector-150

Greater Noida: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday at Eldeco Society in Sector-150, Greater Noida, where two people lost their lives due to suffocation while cleaning an STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) tank. The incident created panic among residents and left the victims’ families devastated.

According to the police, Shashikant Sharma (40), a resident of Karauli district in Rajasthan, entered the STP tank to carry out cleaning work. After some time, he lost consciousness inside the tank, reportedly due to a lack of oxygen and the presence of toxic gases.

When Shashikant did not come out, Akash (22), a security guard from Firozabad, entered the tank in an attempt to rescue him. However, he too became unconscious after being exposed to the same hazardous conditions.

Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the local police and the fire department rushed to the spot. A rescue operation was launched, and both men were pulled out of the tank and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The police have sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths were caused by suffocation resulting from toxic gases and inadequate oxygen levels inside the tank. Authorities are now investigating whether the required safety protocols and protective measures were followed during the cleaning operation.

The incident has once again highlighted the serious risks associated with cleaning confined spaces such as STP tanks and has raised concerns over compliance with mandatory safety standards and operating procedures.
